Please don’t mind the foul language

-

I DECIDED to stop using one of my social media platforms recently because I was called out for using profanity in my posts. For some, using profanity is a terrible act but sometimes I just wonder why. I believe it has something to do with society’s standards.

For others, it’s normal to use a bit of foul language in daily conversations but once a person uses it on social media or the news, they get thrashed. In my opinion, people should just mind their own business since this small act does not involve the entire universe.

Sure, some children might hear the “offensive” word(s) and try to use it/them. But with the power of the Internet, children can come across foul words online too.

Sadly, for me, I was not only criticised but my seat in a certain group was also used to threaten my wellbeing.

Profanity can be used to describe certain emotions like when I’m sad, mad or happy. Certainly, it should not be used in respectable places such as religious buildings or during official meetings. But people who use profanity should not be described as uneducated because no one is uneducated these days, just slightly unintelligent.

Did I use profanity as a 16-yearold? Of course, but I did it in the right situation. I’m not advocating that everyone should use profanity; I’m asking that people should just be comfortable when an individual swears. And please don’t condemn me. Have you never used profanity yourself?
