Ex-officers quizzed over alleged links to funds
PUTRAJAYA: A former official with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is one of several aides of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who are being questioned by the authorities over their “links” to the alleged misappropriation of funds from the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
The 42-year-old “Datuk”, who is the former special officer for Najib, has been remanded until July 1 to assist in investigations.
It is understood that several other aides have also been called in by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to have their statements recorded.
On Sunday, another former aide in his 40s also gave a statement on the case.
However, it is learnt that he was told to return to the MACC headquarters today for a second round of questioning.
Yesterday, magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim granted MACC’s application to place the “Datuk” under remand for a week.
The aide had been working for Najib since 2009.
He was arrested at the MACC headquarters at around 9.45pm on Sunday after his statements were recorded.
As of press time, Najib had not issued any statement on the aide’s arrest.
Sources said those who might have knowledge would be called in to assist in the case.
“Most probably, we will be calling in several former officers,” said a source.
It was unclear if Najib would also be called in to assist the investigation.
Last month, the former prime minister was called twice and his statements on SRC International Sdn Bhd recorded.
Meanwhile, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor was summoned by the MACC on June 5 over the same case.
