KOTA KINABALU: Missing former Sabah chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman has confirmed he is currently in Britain and said he is not running away from the law.

Musa said he is there for medical and other reasons while dismissing claims that he has become a fugitive following a criminal intimidation report against him by the Yang di- Pertua Negri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

Musa said he had been informed about reports that alleged he had become a fugitive and was making himself unavailable to the authorities.

“I believe some of these reports have regrettably been made with the intention of seeking to embarrass or discredit me for political reasons,” said Musa in a statement made available here yesterday.

Contrary to reports, Musa said he had left Malaysia and entered Britain legally.

Musa said he had started legal action over his unconstitutional removal as chief minister.

He claimed that Juhar had improperly asked him to resign within 48 hours.

Musa also said Juhar had declined to sign the Instruments of Appointment, and sworn in Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal as Chief Minister while he was still in office.

“These matters are now subjudice and before the High Court as a result of my originating summons,” he added in the statement.

On the criminal intimidation report, Musa said he was willing to assist the police in their investigations and has communicated with Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din on the matter.

“I have instructed lawyers both in Malaysia and London that any questions or requests for further information to be communicated to them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ramli said police are still waiting for Musa to turn up but confirmed that Musa’s lawyers have contacted him.

He said no arrest warrant has been issued for Musa.
