THE Kelantan marine police foiled a bid by wildlife traffickers to smuggle 60 Asian palm civets to Vietnam at the Tok Bali jetty in Pasir Puteh.

Harian Metro reported that a team found the animals – known locally as the musang – in cages hidden outside the jetty fence on Monday.

The team waited for 30 minutes for someone to claim the animals but no one turned up.

Pengkalan Kubor marine police acting chief Insp Reduan Mohidin said it is believed that the civets were on their way to Vietnam, where the animals were prized as a delicacy.

The animal, priced at RM200, is also used in the production of kopi luwak or civet cat coffee where beans taken from its dung are brewed.

The animals were later handed over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department.

> Berita Harian reported that actor Alvin Chong preferred to keep fans guessing about the status of his relationship with actress Emma Maembong.

Chong, who first gained fame on the reality show Astro Star Quest, said he did not want their private lives to become a topic of discussion.

He admitted that many fans would like to see him get together with Emma due to their wellmatched characters in the drama Awak Suka Saya Tak.

“But Emma and I rarely communicate after working hours. We only went out a few times.

“We’re comfortable talking about anything, including our personal issues.

“Maybe because I can keep secrets,” he said, adding that this did not mean, however, that their relationship was more than merely friends.
