New LCCT plan still up in the air
Terminal will need fresh proposals, says Loke
SEPANG: Any proposal to develop a new lowcost carrier terminal (LCCT) next to the KL International Airport (KLIA) will have to be resubmitted, says the Transport Minister.
“There was a proposal last year that was submitted to the National Economic Council under the previous government.
“The council appointed the Performance Management Delivery Unit (Pemandu) to do a feasibility study on the LCCT Terminal 3 but no decision or approval was given at the time,” Anthony Loke told reporters after launching the FlySmart platform at KLIA yesterday.
He said the company involved would have to resubmit a fresh proposal to the new government.
“If there is a fresh proposal, the ministry and Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) will consider it,” he said.
Loke was commenting on a report on a proposal by Citaglobal Airports Sdn Bhd on Nov 24, which stated that Citaglobal director Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria proposed to then prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for a new LCCT to accommodate higher passenger numbers, especially with the setting up of the Digital Free Trade Zone.
Under the proposal, Citaglobal Airports sought a 99-year lease to develop the new LCCT terminal on 182ha plot next to KLIA.
The proposed project was to be funded by the private sector with Britain-based airport operator Manchester Airports Group Plc keen on managing the new terminal.
Based on a search with the Companies Commission, Citaglobal Airports was incorporated on Nov 2, 2017, and is said to be involved in the wholesale of goods without particular specialisation, as well as management and business consultancy activities.
Citaglobal’s proposal was reported to have received support from AirAsia via a letter dated Nov 2.
Loke also said he was standing by Mavcom amidst calls for its abolishment by several airline companies.
“Airlines have to comply with regulations and conditions, so if Mavcom has made any decision, they have to stand by it,” he said.
