S’wak tycoon in court after arrest warrant issued

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak tycoon Tan Sri Ting Pek Khiing appeared at the Bankruptcy office at the Jalan Duta Court Complex here following a report that a warrant of arrest was issued against him. The case was mentioned in chambers before senior assistant registrar Nik Siti Norazlini Nik Mohamed Faiz.

When approached by the media, Ting and his team of lawyers declined to comment.

Ting complied with an order to be present in court yesterday after an arrest warrant was issued against him for failing to appear in court on June 7.

He was quoted, in an earlier report, as saying that the court appearance was “just a small matter”.

Ting had claimed that certain quarters were trying to embarrass him after he announced that he was embarking on a massive RM30bil development project in Langkawi.

The announcement came after Pakatan Harapan swept to power.

The Kuching-based businessman said he had written to the Kuala Lumpur High Court to explain why he was unable to appear on June 7.

It was reported that Ting was due to appear in court to answer questions by creditors on June 7 but did not turn up.

The warrant of arrest, issued under Section 28 of the Insolvency Act 1967, was to secure his attendance in court yesterday.
