TEMPORARY repair works have started in SMK Seri Pantai, Kuala Lumpur and are expected to take two weeks to complete.

The school, located in Kampung Kerinchi, had its roof blown off in a freak storm last Friday.

A source said this is a stop-gap measure to prevent further damage and ensure the students’ safety until the full repairs can be completed.

The source also confirmed that the students are attending classes as usual.

“They have been placed in the school hall, resource room and empty classrooms.”

Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Mohd Gazali Abas visited the school last Saturday with the Education Minister’s adviser Wan Saiful Wan Jan and Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil.

They were accompanied by a large Public Works Department technical team to perform the damage assessment.

Ten classrooms were affected by the damaged roof, but Dr Mohd Gazali said the teachers had already formulated plans and

replacement classes.

“They will use all the space to ensure classes go on as usual,” he said.

He said they would get emergency funds to make sure the damage does not go further, adding that this would be done within two weeks via the Federal Territories Education Department.

Dr Mohd Gazali said other schools in Jalan Padang Tembak have also suffered damage in the storm.
