THE AMMA Foundation is working with several universities and colleges to offer scholarships.
Foundation president Prof Dr Aruna Gopinath says Taylor’s University is offering three scholarships in Architecture, Building and Design, Bioscience, Communication, Computing, Education, Engineering, Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary, Arts, Law and Pharmacy.
MAHSA University is providing full scholarships for students who have obtained 8As and above in the SPM 2017 examination who are pursuing a Foundation in Science. There are also special rebates for national and state athletes and for children of school teachers and single parents.
The Asia Metropolitan University has special rebates for medicine, pharmacy and physiotherapy.
In addition to these universities, family scholarships are available. The V D Nair Scholarship programme has three scholarships for both undergraduate and post graduate programmes in the fields of Agricultural Science (Plantation Management), Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Bio Industry Science and Environment Technology.
The Lakshmi Nara Menon Educational Trust will present three scholarships for diploma/degree programmes worth RM10,000 per year for three years.
Formed in 1980, the foundation has provided hundreds of disadvan- taged Malaysian students with a range of programmes and resources that include interest free study loans, scholarships, grants, community outreach as well as networking opportunities to young graduates.
Prof Aruna said that the AMMA Foundation to date has provided RM3,299,997 in financial aid to 273 students. In addition, RM481,500 has been given out as High Performers’ Awards, which have benefited 664 students.
She said the foundation has also embarked on a programme for disadvantaged children called, “Give Me A Chance”.
