Tzu Ying lives up to top billing with easy win

BUKIT JALIL: Women’s world No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying continued to show why she is the best by adding another title to her collection at the Malaysian Open here.

The phenomenal Taiwanese was a class above in the women’s final as she dismissed China’s He Bingjiao in straight games at 22-20, 21-11.

Her latest win has extended her current hot winning streak to 25 matches. She has only lost once in 30 matches this year – losing to Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand in the final of the Malaysian Masters in January.

Ratchanok came close to setting up a re-match but she lost to eighth seed Bingjiao in the semi-finals.

In yesterday’s final, Bingjiao almost stole the first game as she was 20-17 up but a cool and calm Tzu-ying was not shaken as she took the next five points to take the opener.

“She made more mistakes in the second game and when she tried to catch up it got more difficult for her,” said Tzu-ying.

“I think she played with less confidence after that.”

“She ( Bingjao) played very well the last few days, so I knew it was going to be a very tough match.”

The 24-year-old will now prepare for the World Championships in China in August. Last year, she skipped the tournament to play for her country at the World University Games in Taiwan.

“I will participate and try to win it, but I will treat it as a normal tournament.”

“There will be a lot of tough upcoming tournaments and I will need to adjust my physical and stamina levels.”
