Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“I was informed at 6.15pm (Malaysian time) that the Indonesian police had succeeded in arresting Jamal,” the Home Minister said in a statement on Monday.

He said the Malaysian police have been contacted to extradite the Red Shirts leader back to Malaysia.

He also thanked the Indonesian government and the police for their assistance.

Jamal, 48, is currently being investigated for at least six offences, including creating public nuisance by breaking bottles of alcohol to protest the Better Beer Festival at the Selangor state secretariat building on Oct 5 last year.

Some of the other cases he was involved in included offences under Section 34 of the Firearms Act 1960.

The police launched a manhunt for Jamal after he was found missing from his ward at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital on May 25.

He disappeared after being charged.

An arrest warrant for him was issued on June 1 for the offence of escaping or resisting police custody.

On June 5, Jamal claimed he was still in Malaysia in a video clip recording.

While in the latest video clip on June 22, Jamal, who was then contesting for the post of Umno Youth chief, said he was still in the country.

Jamal, however, lost in the contest involving nine contenders, which was eventually won by Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki recently.
