‘Make Malaysia world-class for years to come’

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan Cabinet members must remain “humble, hardworking and honest”, setting an example for the people and the nation, says DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.

The veteran politician, in an opinion piece on Malaysiakini following the swearing-in of new ministers and their deputies yesterday, also congratulated them.

“We want the Pakatan government at national or state levels to succeed not just for 50 days or 500 days, but for over 5,000 days in the great, noble and challenging task of building a new Malaysia.

“We want all Malaysians to re-imagine and remake a new Malaysia capable of raising the bar of human excellence and be a world-class nation in various fields,” he added.

Lim also reminded the Government that it had promised to get rid of political favouritism and victimisation and that many innocent people who remained in civil service had been victimised under the previous government.

He also said many others became collateral damage just because they “happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time”.

“While the Government must investigate, remove and book those who were directly responsible and complicit in crimes against the nation, we must also be careful not to be seen as embarking on the path of revenge or vindictiveness.

“Pakatan must never give anyone any basis to think that it is finding every excuse to get rid of the current leaders of government agencies and government-linked companies to replace them with people aligned to itself,” he said.

The Iskandar Puteri MP called on Pakatan leaders to prove that it was different from Barisan Nasional and draw clear lines.

“There are many people in the civil service and GLCs, who have shown dedicated service, integrity and honesty,” he said. “We cannot tar everyone with the same brush.”
