Judges blown away by original and creative entries

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The inaugural #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk T-shirt design competition drew 1,522 entries, among them some amazing entries which blew the judges away with their originality and creativity.

The judges – international shoe designer Datuk Jimmy Choo, Eco World group branding head Steven Tang Shu Shen, 180 Degrees Brandcom Sdn Bhd managing director Chan Fong and Star Media Group content design and creative senior manager Tung Eng Hwa – had a tough time whittling down the total to the best 25.

The entries were scored on originality and creativity, theme relevance, artistic composition, design elements and overall impression.

Choo, who has a keen eye for detail, said he was looking for ideas that had a twist that set it apart from others.

“It must be special and stand out for a design that shows love for the nation,” he explained.

Tang said the high quality made it hard for them to decide on the three winners.

“Be they millennials or those in their 50s, everyone loves refreshing new ideas for their T-shirts.

“All four of us were amazed at how simple lines, colours and the merging of the themes brought forth the winning entries,” he said.

Chan said he wanted to find a design that had a wow factor showcasing a united Malaysia.

“Our aim was to choose a design that must scream out, “Man, what a creative twist, it gives an excellent patriotic feel, I need that, I want to be at the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk,” said Chan, who is also a deejay with the Chinese radio station 988.

Tung said it was a challenge in the second round of judging to narrow the field down to the top three.

“It was indeed tough to pick the best three winners due to the quality of each design,” he added.

#AnakAnakMalaysia Walk is a collaboration between Malaysia’s well-known property developer Eco World Development Group Bhd and Star Media Group.
