Lokman: Suing MACC boss a waste of time

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Lokman Noor Adam says he has no intention of suing Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull over alleged prejudice in investigations linked to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Instead, the president of the proUmno NGO, Pemantau Malaysia Baru (New Malaysia Monitor), has asked MACC to explain why it froze the bank accounts of Najib’s family members, including that of his young grandson.

“If they want to freeze a per son’s bank account, they must have concrete proof that the individual is involved in illegal activities.

“Please don’t tell me that Najib’s 10monthold grandson Adam Razak is linked to alQaeda or any of the underworld gangs?” said Lokman, who is also an Umno supreme council member, yesterday.

He was speaking to reporters at the Kuala Lumpur court complex where Najib and his family had shown up to post the remainder half of his RM1mil bail following the four charges filed against him for criminal breach of trust and abuse of power involving RM42mil linked to SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Adam is the son of Najib’s daughter Nooryana Najwa and Daniyar Nazarbayev, a Kazakh national whom she married in 2015.

On Thursday, Nooryana wrote on a closed Facebook group that her bank informed her that it had received instructions to freeze not only her account but also her son’s.

She wrote that her son’s bank account contained RM100, his first duit raya.

“What does my baby’s duit raya have to do with 1MDB? Is this the new Malaysia people were praying for?” Nooryana added.

The MACC has, however, denied the claim that Adam’s account was frozen.

While Lokman said it would be a waste of time to sue Mohd Shukri, he dared the latter to take action against him instead if his claims were untrue.

“I feel it will be a waste of time to file a suit against someone like this because we know the Government of Malaysia today is practising the rule of the jungle, not the rule of law,” he added.
