> Birthday wish

Happy 93rd birthday, dear Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. May you be blessed with good health in mind, body and spirit as you lead Malaysia to greater heights. – Cynthia Andrew

> Clean sport

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq’s act of picking up thrash at the stadium after the FA Cup Final between Selangor and Pahang, emulating the exemplary Japanese fans at the World Cup, is praiseworthy and puts him on the right footing. Local supporters would do well to follow his lead as we strive for sporting excellence. Do away with the hooliganism that has crept into the local sporting arena over the past few years. – Beatle No. 5

> Expertise counts

The new Attorney General was appointed based on his immense experience and capabilities in handling constitutional and commercial crime cases. Hence, his lack of fluency in the national language should not be treated as a handicap in carrying out his professional duties. I do not understand why some people must go overboard and run him down for his lack of proficiency in the national language. – DMK

> Extension proposal

If the Immigration Department is sincere in legalising all undocumented foreign workers, the application period should be extended or, if possible, be indefinite. Simplify the application forms and procedures because not everyone is Internet savvy! My boss had to pay RM6,000 per application to process those complicated forms. – Zilazu

> Social media success

Regarding the report “Pakatan won war on social media, says Invoke” ( The Star, July 9), the claim by Invoke Malaysia’s chief marketing officer could be true. I have been attending political ceramah since the days of Semangat 46 led by Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, which attracted only the Malay community. The Pakatan Harapan ceramah attracted the Malaysian community.

> Ensure safety

Recent capsize of boats in Indonesia and Thailand which claimed hundreds of lives should serve as warnings for our local authorities to enforce the safety rules in our water transport sector. Enforce regulations on overloading and provision of life jackets, for example. – Dr Citizen, Pajam

> Patriotic Malaysian

The R.AGE report on how digital marketing turned the GE14 tide (July 9) mentioned that there are about 8,000 Malaysian voters living abroad. My friend Thiruchelvam, instead of relying on postal voting, flew from England to Johor Baru to cast his valuable vote. What a dedicated and patriotic Malaysian. – Johorapi
