No high salary for new Mavcom boss, says Loke
PUTRAJAYA: The new boss of Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) will no longer be enjoying high pay.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said there would definitely be a pay cut.
“I have submitted several names to the Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad).
“What I can say is that whoever the new appointee is, he will not enjoy the previous salary scale. As for the quantum of the cut, I will announce it later,” Loke told reporters after flagging off a Porsche convoy to Bangkok in conjunction with its 70th anniversary celebrations here yesterday.
Last month, Loke revealed that the salary of Mavcom’s executive chairman was RM85,000 per month, four times more than what Dr Mahathir earned.
Following this, he said Dr Mahathir gave instructions to conduct a salary review.
Tan Sri Abdullah Ahmad was reportedly stepping down from the post, with sources saying an official statement would be made on the matter.
Recently, Mavcom was under the spotlight following calls for its abolishment by local airlines namely AirAsia, Eaglexpress Air Charter Sdn Bhd and Suasa Airlines Sdn Bhd, saying the commission did not understand how the aviation industry worked.
