Ranger mauled by bear lives to tell the tale
VANCOUVER: A badly injured park ranger in British Columbia survived a mauling by a grizzly bear by driving himself to a hospital.
Jordan Carbery was photographing grizzly cubs in a tree outside his home in Bella Coola when the cubs’ mother raced in, knocked him down and repeatedly bit him.
He escaped by kicking her in the face, found his car keys and drove for 10 minutes to the hospital. He is now recovering after operations.
Inspector Len Butler of the Conservation Officer Society said the bears would not be put down as the mother bear’s attack was defensive.
