IGP: No need to send team to track Musa in London
KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman will not send a team to London to track down former Sabah chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said this was because Musa was expected to return to Malaysia soon.
He said Bukit Aman had alerted several authorities in Britain over Musa being wanted in Malaysia.
“I am, however, confident that he will be coming back soon. I don’t see the need to send a team to track him down,” he told reporters after launching a blood donation drive by Bukit Aman yesterday.
Musa is wanted for alleged criminal intimidation against the Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negri and also by the anti-graft agency.
Musa claimed he left Malaysia for Britain “perfectly lawfully” on May 16 for medical and personal reason, rejecting allegations that he fled the country illegally.
Mohamad Fuzi said necessary action would be taken against Musa once he returns to Malaysia. The police had requested Interpol to issue a Red Notice on Musa.
On allegations by lawyers representing Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor that police did not adhere to the SOP in raiding premises linked to them and seizing items, the IGP said affidavits had been issued to his officers.
“We will respond accordingly to the lawyers if the need arises,” he said.
Mohamad Fuzi also rejected a viral WhatsApp message in which he allegedly promised to investigate an MIC vice-president over misconduct in connection with the party’s upcoming polls.
“I know my name was mentioned in the text message. It is all fake. I cannot be involved with any political party as we (the police) are non-partisan and neutral,” he said.
Asked whether there were any police reports lodged by MIC, the IGP said there was none so far.
A screengrab of the exchange on WhatsApp, which is being spread online, showed “IGP TS Fuzi” assuring a police investigation will be conducted on an allegation that MIC division and branch chiefs were being pressured by an MIC leader to support his quest for the presidency.
