Legendary Unnikrishnan is talentime contest judge
THE nationwide Malayalam Talentime Song Contest organised by the All Malaysia Malayalee Association (Amma) will see the legendary Indian singer P. Unnikrishnan as a judge, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Amma president Datuk Suseela Menon said the event was organised to discover and promote talented local singers who can perform in the mother tongue of the community which originated from South India.
The event has begun for some time with preliminary rounds held nationwide. A total of 12 contestants who succeeded in the early rounds will compete in the finals which will take place on July 22 at the IRDKL Hall in Shah Alam, Selangor.
The contestants will get their chance to impress Unnikrishnan who will select the winner. The grand prize is a Toyota Vios car.
Unnikrishnan is a classically trained carnatic singer who shot to stardom singing for legendary Indian cinema music composer A.R. Rahman and won the Indian National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for his debut song.
Having the beloved singer agree to be a judge on the competition was a recognition of the talent in the country and was a validation for the competition, Suseela said.
