Surgeon’s ‘Elev8thor’ a leg-up for medical staff

-

NILAI: A lecturer and orthopaedic surgeon has developed a support tool called Elev8thor to make it easier for medical personnel to clean leg wounds.

Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia’s Medicine and Health Sciences Faculty senior lecturer Dr Mohd Asha’ari Bain said the tool would alleviate the burden on nurses and medical officers, as at least three personnel were needed to clean wounds and apply a plaster of Paris cast on a broken limb.

“With this tool, a nurse will be able to save 15 to 20 minutes when cleaning a leg injury,” he said.

Dr Mohd Asha’ari said the mobile modular block system deployed by Elev8thor would help health personnel conduct daily management of wounds more efficiently.

He said these blocks were specially designed so they could be moved to reduce pressure in the wound area to prevent ulcers, while reducing complications in leg injuries from the knee and below.

He said the product won a gold medal at the Exposition on Islamic Innovation here recently and was being patented.
