Azim: No centralised camp for Asiad

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The national centralised training camp has been scrapped ahead of next month’s Asian Games.

Chef de mission Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi said the move will not jeopardise the contingent’s morale and unity.

“We’ll not have the national camp as most of the athletes are training overseas for the Asian Games,” said Azim after meeting the men’s and women’s hockey players and coaches at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

“It’s not unusual as we did not have a national camp for the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in March too.”

Azim has instructed all the teams for the Asiad to conduct their own training camps to motivate their athletes.

“They can invite former top athletes to give a motivation talk to inspire the athletes ahead of the Games.

“However, all athletes will attend the flag handing ceremony which will be held next month,” said Azim.
