Gobind: Many complaints of lost packages
SHAH ALAM: Pos Malaysia has been directed to review its entire postal system after complaints of lost packages and letters reached Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
Gobind said he had asked Pos Malaysia to review its entire postal system and study the issues it faced, adding that a report would be submitted in a month.
“I have received many complaints, especially via Twitter, that people are not receiving their letter and parcels.
“These complaints are good as it shows that Pos Malaysia is being used but we must ensure that the services are excellent,” he said during the launch of the expansion of the Pos Malaysia’s Integrated Parcel Centre here yesterday.
The expansion will allow the processing of 300,000 parcels per day compared to 120,000 parcels per day previously.
He also announced that 340 Pos Malaysia outlets that served as Maybank agents could now accept Tabung Harapan donations as well as a free mail service in conjunction with Merdeka.
The free mail can be sent by using the Kiriman Merdeka envelope available at any post office.
The ministry, said Gobind, was also considering the abolishment of political party ownership and control over the media.
“There are many different views on how to approach this. Some speak about controlling companies that control certain newspapers, some on controlling licences, some talk about how to allow shareholding but not allow control of the news agency,” he said, adding that the decision however remained with the Cabinet.
Earlier, Gobind had visited the RM860mil Media City Project, aimed at upgrading RTM’s broadcast infrastructure.
The goal to make RTM relevant and competitive, he said, was on track, adding that the first phase of the Media City Project was expected to be completed in September.
Once fully completed in 2020, the 18.5ha city will be equipped with modern integrated broadcasting facilities on par with international standards.
