Call to appoint Indian women as managers
THE Indian community would like to see Indian women appointed to management positions in government-linked companies (GLCs) and councils, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Rathai Manogaran, one of the women interviewed, said it was heartening to see five women ministers appointed to the Cabinet and four more as deputy ministers.
However, it was slightly disappointing that no Indian woman was given an opportunity, she said.
“Indian women have shown themselves capable of carrying such roles such as Datuk S. Thangeswari – the Perak state assembly Speaker,” said S. Mohana.
However, she said it was positive to see the policy of the current government to have at least 30% women in GLCs and local councils.
A. Letchumi said women had shown their mettle by holding high-ranking positions in government departments.
“It is well known that some of the best performing Tamil schools are headed by women,” she said.
