KLANG: Mention the name Danny Baboo and dog lovers who are active on Facebook will immediately break into a wide grin.

The rotund eight-year-old mixed breed is a well-loved star on a Facebook site called “Dog Lovers of Malaysia” (DLOM).

“His” funny quips and creative memes not only get countless likes but also a lot of comments from dog lovers who enjoy “bantering with” Danny Baboo.

His fans are drawn to the cheeky canine who downplays his weight and talks about his fondness for chicken popcorn, and flirts with both two-legged and four-legged damsels alike.

“He is totally adorable, huggable and bulat (round). Seeing him on Facebook makes my day,” said Andrew Peris, 58, from Kuala Lumpur.

Andrew added that Danny Baboo is naturally photogenic and reading “his” comments gets one laughing or smiling immediately.

“Great start to the day,” he remarked. Another Danny Baboo fan, Eva Mahalingam, said interacting with him lifted her spirits during a period of depression some two years ago.

“I have been following his updates on DLOM ever since his first post,” said the credit control officer who is also from Kuala Lumpur.

Seeing his “big doggy smile” takes her blues away, she added.

Meanwhile, Nurhanizah Abdul Rahman, 35, from Penang, said Danny Baboo is DLOM’s superstar.

“His cute poses and facial expressions are really funny and his owner is really good at creating captions,” she said.

Some of Danny Baboo’s quotes are: “I love to watch the sunrise on television because I am too lazy to get up and watch it for real” and “Hi beautiful girls ... I just hugged you in my thoughts today. I hope you felt the squeeze”.

Danny Baboo is the much-loved pet of 36-year-old preschool teacher Piria Rajaram, who lives in Parit Buntar, Perak.

According to Piria, she started a Facebook account for her beloved pooch after sensing that he could grow to become very popular.

“Initially, the Facebook account was mine and one day I removed my photo and replaced it with Danny Baboo’s.

“As soon as I did that, I started receiving dozens of friend requests and so I deleted my account and created one for Danny Baboo,” said Piria, who Danny Baboo refers to as “sister” on the account.

She said the big-boned canine has a warm and friendly personality and is very active despite his weight.
