Expats join in the fun at wellness fair
PETALING JAYA: Besides Malaysians, the Star Health Expo 2018 attracted many expatriates and foreigners on its opening day at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre.
Among them were the Miyake family from Japan, who have lived in Malaysia for two years.
Businessman Satoshi Miyake, 36, and his sons Yusei, eight, and Koya, six, were seen excitedly trying the LIVE GREAT Sky Track, which challenged visitors to test their strength and courage by manoeuvring four unique high rope obstacles up to 6m above the ground.
“It was scary, but so much fun. I want to do it again,” Yusei said after he scaled down the wall.
His mother Rie, 38, said she was impressed with the activities and booths at the expo.
“I also want to do the climbing, but I am wearing a skirt today. I’ll probably come again during the weekend to try it,” said the housewife.
Colleagues Pearly Woo, Shazira Ahmad Omar, and Kay Chan, all in their 20s, laughed as they tried out the LIVE GREAT Kinect Workout, an interactive Xbox game that provides a simple workout suitable for all ages.
They took turns to play the reality game and took pictures of each other enjoying the game.
“This is my workout for Friday and it was definitely worth visiting the expo for,” said Woo.
There was also a line for free basic health checks at booths by KPJ Healthcare Bhd.
Housewife Ng Kin Kin, who was among those waiting in line, said it was important for senior citizens like her to get regular health checks.
“At this age, we tend to have a lot of health problems. Luckily, my eyes are healthy,” said the 60yearold after she got her eyes tested.
There was also a variety of health and wellness services such as Doctor On Call and BioMark.
Doctor On Call is a service that allows the public to consult a doctor online without making a clinic or hospital visit, said cofounder and director Maran Virumandi.
BioMark is an app that provides access to lab test results online, which its head of business development Dr Izzhar Putra said will empower Malaysians to take charge of their health.
Those looking to improve their lifestyle can also find booths featuring companies such as Ace Cardio Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
Apart from selling its AceAmino health supplement, it provides high blood pressure and sustainable weight management programmes, said director David Yuen.
There will be booths by Kuvings Malaysia, which offers stateoftheart juicers, and Getha Bedding Sdn Bhd, which offers ecofriendly natural latex beddings.
The Star Health Expo 2018 will run until tomorrow at Halls 1 to 3 of the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, from 10am to 7pm.
