Read her lips: Like, ‘self-made’

-

US reality TV star and cosmetics mogul Kylie Jenner is on track to become the youngest ever “selfmade” billionaire, amid criticism of her privileged background.

The 20-year-old is worth an estimated US$900mil (RM3.6bil), business magazine Forbes said ahead of its August edition, which features Jenner on its cover.

“What her half-sister Kim Kardashian West did for booty, Jenner has done for full lips.

“Like Kardashian West, she has leveraged her assets to gain both fame and money. But while her sister is best-known for the former, Jenner has proved adept at the latter,” it said.

Jenner in 2016 launched makeup company Kylie Cosmetics, which has since gone on to huge success with a range of products designed to help customers’ lips look bigger through filling and over-lining – like her own trademark pout.

She’s already the youngest person on Forbes’ list of richest self-made US women and another year of growth would make her the youngest self-made billionaire ever, beating Mark Zuckerberg, who crossed the threshold at the age of 23.

Other social media users were quick to criticise Forbes’ use of the term “self-made”, noting Jenner's affluent upbringing.

“Self-made means having succeeded in life unaided.

“Used in a sentence – Forbes says that Kylie Jenner is a self-made woman,” Dictionary.com tweeted. “‘Self-made’? Really?

“Its easy to become a billionaire when your parents are millionaires...

“Its called generational wealth + nepotism,” L’Oreal Luxe’s US media manager Shelby Ivey Christie wrote on Twitter.

Jenner, who last year became the youngest person to feature on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list, is the youngest child of Caitlin (formerly Bruce) and Kris Jenner.
