New FAM president Datuk Hamidin says he is no puppet
PETALING JAYA: The newlyelected Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin is in no hurry to name the national body’s new secretary general.
Hamidin was officially elected as FAM’s president for the 20182021 term, replacing Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim who resigned in March, at the association’s 54th Congress yesterday.
The 53yearold who left the FAM’s secretary general post to contest for president’s position, won the seat unopposed after Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) deputy president Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi and former FAM deputy president Tan Sri Annuar Musa pulled out of the race.
Hamidin said that he’s still undecided on the secretary general post.
“I have no inspiration yet on who to appoint for the post ... I have also asked my predecessor Tunku Ismail for suggestions but he also has no idea yet.
However, we will announce the candidate once the appointment is made,” said Hamidin.
The Gombakborn Hamidin said his priorities will be to improve the standard of the national team, grassroots development and the association’s finances.
“I’m pleased to have received the support of the members. I’m honoured to take over from Tunku Ismail but at the same time I also know the huge responsibilities I’m taking on and I will do my utmost best for the betterment of Malaysian football,” said Hamidin, who was also the FA of Selangor’s (FAS) secretary general from 19982013.
“Some claimed that I will be a puppet president but I can tell you now that I will not be under the fingers of anyone. World football has gone through reformations and that is what we will do at FAM,” he said.
