Investing for a better tomorrow

-

MAH Sing Foundation, the charity arm of Mah Sing Group, recently donated a total of RM205,200 to 80 students from two education institutes, namely Ruth Education Centre (REC) and SMK Ungku Aziz to aid their cause for the betterment of education through technology.

Mah Sing Foundation chairman Datuk Syed Norulzaman Syed Kamarulzaman presented the mock cheques of RM145,200 and RM60,000 to REC director Michael Moey and SMK Ungku Aziz Design & Technology teacher Mohd Fathur Rahman Kharie (Cikgu Fathur) respectively.

“We strongly believe in investing for a better tomorrow through educating the younger generation.

“This could only be achieved through the cooperation and support of purposeful programmes such as these. “I would like to commend both REC and SMK Ungku Aziz on their efforts in the advancement of education for children,” said Syed Norulzaman.

Computer lab for refugee students

Formed in July 2011, the REC aims to provide a holistic educational experience for refugee youths in the areas of academic, vocational, arts and spiritual teachings.

It is home to 50 Myanmar students aged between 14 to 18 years old.

The contribution from the foundation will be used to provide a computer laboratory equipped with 20 computers, desks, chairs and air conditioning.

This project aims to ensure the students are competent to handle digital technology that will give them a competitive edge. They will be taught how to use Microsoft applications, digital animations, website design, internet business and other multimedia applications.

One of the REC students thanked the foundation for providing them with the computer lab during the ceremony.

“This gives us hope. Hope that one day we can be successful and bring joy to our families. Thank you Mah Sing Foundation,” said the student.

Syed Norulzaman said the foundation strongly believed that every child should have access to education and study in a conducive environment.

“I am glad to see the chil- dren’s excitement through their work,” he added.

3D modelling class

Inspired by a student who was suffering from a physical disability, coupled with rising interest in arts, design and technology from his students, Cikgu Fathur reached out to the Mah Sing Foundation to provide them with the necessary equipment to implement an innovative classroom project.

The foundation’s donation will be used to refurbish an old workshop at the school located on the outskirts of Sabak Bernam, Selangor into a fully functional design technology studio equipped with 3D printers and desktop computers.

The first project will see the students designing and producing 3D blueprints of a prosthetic arm for their peer who is currently suffering from a physical disability.

“I wish to thank Mah Sing Foundation for funding this classroom project and sharing a common vision in terms of advancing education through technology.

“The students are very excited,” said Cikgu Fathur.

Syed Norulzaman said: “We chose to fund Cikgu Fathur’s project because it exposes the students to the latest technology (3D printing) but also because the objective of the project is to give back to the physically-challenged community by providing prosthetic limbs to children in need.”

Both these projects, he added, meet the foundation’s three main focuses which are education, community and health.

“In tandem with our new tagline ‘Reinventing Hope. Changing Lives’, we believe in investing in our future, for the betterment of society,” said Syed Norulzaman.
