Partnership on sports, studies
LIMKOKWING University of Creative Technology will work with the Anderson School Old Boys Association (Asoba) to develop sports and academics in Malaysia.
The collaboration was announced during the association’s visit to the university’s campus in Cyberjaya.
It was led by former chief secretary to the government Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid and Asoba president Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi, who is also the National Sports Institute chairman.
The collaboration will put a spotlight on the importance of sports in society, which Ahmad Sarji explained as one of the strongest suits of Anderson School (SMK Anderson), in particular hockey.
University president Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing said the partnership will begin with the creation of a video to promote sports to increase awareness in society.
In addition to sports, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology will provide academic support to Asoba alumni and teachers to further their studies at the institution at undergraduate and postgraduate levels through 10 scholarships.
Established in February 1909, Anderson School is a premier non-mission school in Ipoh, which was named after the High Commissioner of the Malay States, Sir John Anderson.
For almost 100 years, the school has produced many influential figures including Ahmad Sarji.
Lim added that it was a good time for Anderson School to be part of the university’s global journey, in designing a creative and innovative future ahead.
“We can make Anderson School a partner of the university,” Lim proposed.
Ahmad Sarji applauded Lim’s efforts in globalising creative education.
“Tan Sri Lim is a cut above the rest, a global player in the field of education,” said Ahmad Sarji. The meeting concluded with plans to follow up with a separate discussion to work out the details of the collaboration between Limkokwing and Asoba.
The university’s Industry Empowerment senior vice president Datuk Raja Aznil Raja Hisham and vice president Datuk Abd Aziz Harun were also present.
