Azmin to meet Anwar in Turkey over election candidate

-

BANGI: PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is expected to fly to Turkey to meet party adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to decide on the candidate for the Sg Kandis by-election.

In confirming this, Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari said he was still awaiting a decision on the candidate.

Anwar is recuperating there after undergoing a spinal surgery procedure, as well as another one on his right shoulder.

According to Sinar Harian, Amirudin said more than three names had been forwarded for consideration by the party leadership.

“I hope that a decision can be made soon so that we can announce the candidate.

“All of them have their own distinctive backgrounds and are winnable candidates,” he said, adding that understanding the situation on the ground, as well as the local sentiments, had been taken into consideration.

Amirudin was speaking to reporters after attending the Selangor Industrial Ride 2.0 programme here yesterday.

He said although the candidate had yet to be confirmed, early preparations had already been carried out.

“What’s important is to move the election machinery early. I have gone down to the ground twice,” said Amirudin, who made another visit to the area to watch the World Cup final match with youths.

Nomination for the Sg Kandis by-election is fixed for Saturday and polling is on Aug 4.
