Sister Enda unveils diamond jubilee sculpture

-

SCHOOL foundress Datin Paduka Sister Enda Ryan has unveiled the SMK Assunta diamond jubilee sculpture.

She thanked students, teachers and parents for making SMK Assunta what it is today. She also read out a special message, which she penned for future Assuntarians.

The new sculpture took inspiration from the tagline of the school’s diamond jubilee logo, “The Jewel In Our Hearts”.

The jubilee logo, which has the school logo embedded in a diamond, was designed by the school’s Parent-Teacher Association chairman Alan Goh. It symbolises the love of Assuntarians for their alma mater.

“The structure symbolises the collective strength of all the key pillars of the school working together towards fulfilling and upholding its motto, vision and mission.

“It will be a lasting tribute that can be enjoyed by its many visitors,” he said, adding that it was an honour to have assisted in designing and sculpting the piece.

A time capsule to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the school was sealed and is only to be opened in 2028. Items placed inside included Sister Enda’s biography, newspaper cuttings featuring the launching of the diamond jubilee, jubilee momentos and a special message from Sister Enda to future Assuntarians.

Also present were school principal Teresa Chan, Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah who is a former Assuntarian, school board of governors, PTA members, past and present Assuntarians, donors and friends.

The ceremony closed with the school song being sung by the Assuntarians.
