SHAH ALAM: The new government needs time to restore the machinery of the country, says Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said Pakatan Harapan discovered that the damage caused by the previous government was more than what was initially suspected.

“Not only billions were stolen, but the machinery of the government was also sabotaged,” he said at a dinner organised by Klang Chinese clan associations to raise funds for Tabung Harapan.

Dr Mahathir said the Government had to remove some of the officers who were involved in sustaining the previous administration.

“Action has to be taken against them as they took part in damaging the country.

“We need time to restore because the machinery of the government was destroyed and abused by Najib,” he said.

Dr Mahathir also took a swipe at former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib. Dr Mahathir reiterated that the Government would restore the rule of law in the country and pledged to repeal laws that suppress the people.

He also thanked Malaysians who donated to Tabung Harapan.

lions of ringgit. This is a small amount compared to the RM1tril debt. But it is the spirit that counts.

“These donations show our dedication and our willingness to sacrifice because we love this country,” he said.

At the event yesterday that was attended by 3,000 people, RM3.48mil was raised.

The Tabung Harapan Malaysia fund was set up on May 30 for Malaysians to help reduce the country’s debts.

On July 17, it crossed the RM150mil mark.
