‘Govt facing various constraints’
Saifuddin: There are certain issues in fulfilling election promises
JAKARTA: The Pakatan Harapan government is not flip-flopping but is facing various constraints in implementing promises made in its general election manifesto, Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said.
He said the manifesto also faced certain constraints from incomplete information due to “obstructions” by the previous government.
“We are not flip-flopping, we have to face constraints. There are (promises) in the manifesto, which we have already implemented within 70 days.
“Out of 10 other promises in 100 days, two have been fulfilled, six are in the implementation process and the other two have yet to be implemented,” said Saifuddin, who is on a three-day working visit to Indonesia.
He earlier held a meeting with Malaysian students here yesterday.
Saifuddin, who is the Pakatan secretariat chief, said the Government was committed to ful- filling all its promises.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said that the Government needed more than 100 days to fulfil the promises contained in the Pakatan manifesto.
This include the pledge to postpone the debt repayment of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), increase the minimum wage level and set up a committee to discuss the 1963 Malaysia Agreement.
Also promised were the set- ting-up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry on 1Malaysia Development Bhd, Felda, People’s Trust Council, and the Pilgrims Fund Board.
Saifuddin also listed the successes of Pakatan since it came to power in May.
“People want change, the term New Malaysia is a term expressed by the people and the Pakatan Harapan government will do its best to meet the needs and aspirations of the people,” he said. — Bernama
