Political stability is crucial, says Ruler

‘It’s needed to attract investors to the state’

KANGAR: Development planned for Perlis can only be implemented smoothly if the political situation is stable, says Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

Apart from providing a complete infrastructure, political stability was also one of the crucial factors in attracting investors to the state, thus enabling development to take place as planned, he said.

“The state government cannot afford to develop this state alone, therefore it requires the participation of the private sector, particularly investors, and it would not be possible to attract large investments that are high impact and sustainable if the government is not stable.

“As such, I want all elected representatives in the state to be united, work with sincerity and to give priority to the interests of the state and people so that infrastructure projects can be carried out immediately,” he said when officiating the opening of the 14th State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said the political landscape in the country has changed and the challenge of developing Perlis was more difficult given that it was now an opposition state.

“This is in addition to the dependence of the state government on the Federal Government in terms of allocation for development expenditure,” he said, adding that to reduce the state’s deficit, the government should adopt prudent measures. — Bernama
