Wong criticises law minister’s statement on social media
PKR’S Subang MP Wong Chen has taken to Facebook to complain about the quality of a written reply, saying that its “vague” statement is against Pakatan Harapan’s reform agenda on asset declaration.
Wong had asked if ministers, MPs and senior civil servants would be compelled to publicly declare their assets annually.
“The reply I got from the law minister avoids giving a direct answer.
“There is nothing in the written reply to say that the Government will make asset declarations available to the public,” he said in his post.
“The issue of asset declaration is a crucial test of Pakatan’s reform agenda,” pointed out Wong.
The reply was given by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong, who is currently in charge of law.
The reply, said Wong, only made general statements about the shortcomings of the previous Barisan Nasional administration on asset declaration and that a committee would look into the matter and propose reforms.
It also elaborated on a Code of Ethics for civil servants and MPs, who were required to declare their assets once every two years.
“Several PKR MPs are taking up this matter in the current debate, urging a firm commitment from the Government to fight corruption with public asset declaration,” said Wong.
