Criminals use secret ‘tunnel’ at border

-

THERE is a secret “tunnel” in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, used by human trafficking syndicates and smugglers to cross the Malaysia-Thailand border.

Harian Metro reported that the 20m culvert was built to channel floodwaters from the lake of the Black Forest Golf Club.

A source told the paper that the smuggling activities usually occur during Friday prayers when surveillance is thought to be low and from 2am to 6.30am during other times.

The syndicates would use empty plastic barrels as rafts to smuggle people and goods across the lake before they switched to using the culvert.

Among the things smuggled in were drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and fireworks.

When there is heavy rain, the culvert cannot be used as it will be full of water.

> The police have warned the public to stop the “Keke Challenge” on the road, the same paper reported.

City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Asst Comm Zulkefly Yahya said they did not want anyone to get hurt.

The challenge requires the person to jump out of a moving car and dance to the song In My Feelings by Drake.

The dance became a craze when comedian Shiggy uploaded a video of it, getting five million views in a short period of time.

It exploded further when celebri- ties Will Smith and Ciara copied the dance.

In another report about this craze, local celebrity Fasha Sandha said she did not expect a video she uploaded onto Instagram to be viewed more than two million times.

She believes that she managed to get the high number of views because she was wearing a baju kurung.

> An education graduate is willing to work in Singapore as a cleaner after failing three times in interviews to become a teacher, reported Utusan Malaysia.

Muhammad Adlan Noor Khafiz, 25, said although he had to travel 100km both ways every day, the high salary made him more determined to work in the republic.

“To get a job in Malaysia with the same salary I am earning in Singapore is very tough. I had even tried various jobs, including working as an operator in a factory, before making the decision to work in Singapore,” he said.
