Rosmah seeks to strike out jeweller’s suit

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor is seeking to strike out a suit by a Lebanese jeweller against her over the payment or return of 44 pieces of jewellery worth RM60mil.

Rosmah’s lawyer Datuk Geethan Ram Vincent said High Court deputy registrar Siti Faraziana Zainuddin had in chambers set Oct 11 for the hearing of the striking out application.

Geethan said the application was filed on the grounds that the jewellery were with the authorities, not his client.

He said the court would hear the application for intervention by the Government the same day.

High Court Judicial Commissioner Wong Chee Lin will hear both applications.

Beirutbased company Global Royalty Trading SAL has named Rosmah as the sole defendant in its lawsuit.

In its statement, the company alleged that the jewellery was sent via consignment to Rosmah upon her request. It claimed that Rosmah confirmed and acknowledged receiving the jewellery via a letter dated May 22.

It is seeking an order that Rosmah confirms the list of the sealed items and a mandatory order for the return of the jewellery.

Alternatively, the company said if the jewellery or any of the pieces cannot be reclaimed by the plaintiff, the defendant is responsible to pay back the costs of the items.
