Durian beer not a hit, there’s no taste of the fruit

-

THE “Durian Durian beer” by Australia’s Foreigner Brewing Company was only given a rating of 3.04 out of 5 on beer rating app Untappd, Oriental Daily reported.

The craft brewery said the durian’s sweet and savoury flavour paired well with the dry spiciness of a saison-style beer.

A check on the Untappd website showed that the rating has dropped to 2.93, with a total of 277 ratings.

An Untappd user, with the handle Will F, commented: “Disappoint- ment in a glass. Couldn’t taste the namesake fruit.”

Another user, Jakub K, said: “Slightly strange ... Not feeling this jam.”

“As a durian man, I detected no durian,” Bouffee D said.

> Taiwanese artiste Aaron Yan alleged that many so-called “talent competitions” in China were designed to scam money out of those dreaming of becoming a star, the same daily reported.

In a Facebook post, Yan said these organisers held auditions under the pretext of scouting for talent, but would later ask for fees from the participants.

“There are zero chances of breaking into the entertainment industry,” he said.

Yan added that many Taiwanese were not aware of such scams, which he likened to direct selling.

His post attracted praise from his fans for exposing the reality of these “talent shows”.
