DAP should not claim MCA’s credit, says Chai

-

PETALING JAYA: DAP should not claim credit for the approval of 10 new Chinese primary schools, or SJK(C), says MCA’s publicity bureau.

It’s chairman Datuk Chai Kim Sen said it was MCA, which had seven MPs in the previous Barisan Nasional government, that fought for the 10 new schools and relocation of six others last year.

He said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng’s recent announcement that one of these approved schools would be moved to Penang was a “lame trick” as it was merely adding a school in Penang by taking away a school from elsewhere.

“If the Pakatan Harapan government is committed to assisting the Chinese community as promised, then the Education Ministry should approve the construction of more SJK(C)s in states like Penang and Selangor based on the actual need, instead of shifting the 10 SJK(C)s from predetermined locations elsewhere,” he said.

In the statement, Chai also lashed out at the Education Ministry for being “insincere and has no intention to build more SJK(C)s”.

He said DAP failed to obtain the approval of even one school and could only claim MCA’s credit as its own, even with its 42 MPs and six Cabinet ministers.

He added that it was naive for Lim and Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching to think that it was DAP’s victory to move one of the 10 SJKC)s to Penang, and that the Chinese community owed the Pakatan government for it.

“The number of SJK(C)s approved has not changed, the only thing that changed is the location,” he said.
