Long-awaited temple AGM ends in confusion

-

THE annual general meeting of the Maha Mariamman temple in Bedong, Kedah, held for the first time after a lapse of 20 years, ended in confusion and with police reports, reported Malaysia Nanban.

The meeting was organised by the Kedah branch of the Malaysia Hindu Sangam and chaired by branch chief K.S. Maniam.

K. Dinesh, who was running for the temple youth chief ’s post, said the attendees wanted the previous committee to table the temple’s accounts, which had not been done for many years.

The committee was then dissolved and voting was done, but this led to further disputes over the results.

Hindu Sangam officials, who were present, postponed the meeting, said Dinesh.

Several dissatisfied attendees later lodged reports at the Sungai Petani police station.

> A teenage girl in Vavuniya, Sri Lanka, was lucky to escape drowning after falling into a well, reported Tamil Nesan.

Her mother, who also fell into the well while trying to rescue her, survived as well.

The 17yearold girl was drawing water from the well behind their house when she fell into it.

The mother tried to pull her out using a rope, but she also slipped and tumbled into the well.

Neighbours who heard their screams were able to pull them out in time.
