JDT to face Kedah in Malaysia Cup Group C

-

PETALING JAYA: Defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim have been grouped with last year finalists Kedah in Group C in the Malaysia Cup draw.

They have 2012 champions Kelantan and debutants MISC-MIFA in the competition which kicks off on Aug 4-Sept 16.

The Southern Tigers clinched their first ever Malaysia Cup title after beating Kedah 2-0 in the final last season.

The draw held in Damansara yesterday revealed some mouth-watering clashes for football fans.

The top 11 Super League teams and top five from the second division Premier League will kick off their campaign on Saturday in one of the oldest football competitions in Asia.

The top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the quarter-finals.

In Group D, there will be a repeat of the FA Cup final as winners Pahang are teamed with finalists Selangor. The Red Giants suffered a 2-0 loss to the Elephants on July 7.

Super League debutants PKNP are expected to be the dark horses of the group while Premier League outfit Sabah will be another tricky team to handle especially at their home ground in Likas.

Group A competition also promises to be an explosive affair as Super League runners-up Perak will have to battle with two other Super League sides – Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur. They also will have to deal with Premier League runners-up Felcra.

The 2018 Premier League champions, Felda United, lead the Group B challenge with two Super League sides PKNS, Melaka and Premier League outfit Police.
