Prepping for studies abroad

Education experts to give helpful tips on life overseas at fair

PETALING JAYA: Studying abroad may be one of the best ways for students to gain knowledge and learn independence.

The foreign experience also boosts employment opportunities to help youths secure a bright future.

Those who wish to pursue higher qualifications in countries with a long history of education excellence should come to the Star Education Fair 2018, where experts will be sharing information on studying and working overseas.

Among the experts on pursuing tertiary education overseas is Malaysian British Educational Cooperation Services (Mabecs) senior consultant Chew Phye Beng, who will speak on university and visa applications, courses available in Britain as well as the benefits of studying there during his talk “Study in UK”.

“Students tend to focus a lot on London, but many universities beyond London offer quality education at an affordable price. The cost of living outside of London is also not as high,” said Chew.

StudyExcel education advisor Shaun Tan’s segment is on “Opportunities in Australia”, where he will speak on what to expect when studying in Australia.

He will cover various topics, including visa applications, finding parttime employment, adapting to the work culture there and how to successfully juggle parttime work with studies.

Tan noted that Australia offers good opportunities, adding that it allows students to apply for permanent residency if the course they stud ied is included under the Skilled Occupations List.

A talk on “Study in Singapore” will also be conducted by UniGlobal Education managing director Jimmy Ho.

Catch Chew, Tan and Ho on the first day of the Star Education Fair 2018 this Saturday from 12.10pm to 1.20pm under the Education and Career Talks segment.

Other talks on subjects such as tourism, medicine, nursing, computer science, performing arts and disruptive technology will also be held at the fair on both days.

Qualified counsellors and academic staff from local and international higher learning institutions will be present to brief students and parents on a wide range of programmes.

Attractive discounts and scholarships will also be offered on the spot.

The Star Education Fair will be held at Exhibition Halls 4 and 5 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 11am to 7pm this weekend. Admission is free.
