A TOTAL of 14 Indian families in Semenyih, Selangor became the owners of bungalow lots through the efforts of the Selangor Makkal Palnokku Kooturavu Kalagam (Koperasi Pelbagai Rakyat Selangor), reported Malaysia Nanban.

The cooperative president, Dr Raghavan Nambiar, said the organisation was started in 1973 to help the community buy their own land.

The association has 240 members and has previously helped 140 members buy shoplots.

Since its inception, the cooperative has worked to ensure the community which moved out from the plantations years ago is able to prosper in urban areas including through land and property ownership, said Dr Raghavan.

> The Perak state Hindu priests association has refuted recent allegations that many priests are overcharging for their services or are unqualified to perform rituals, reported Tamil Nesan.

Association president Siva Sri K. Mohanasundara Sivachariyar claimed certain groups are spreading rumours about the priests in the state’s Hindu temples.

They alleged the priests were not well versed in the rituals and ceremonies and that these holy men charged high prices.

Some of these allegations also came from those holding positions in Hindu organisations, which should know better the working conditions of the priests, added Mohanasundara.
