Overseas grads get higher paying jobs

Survey finds businesses are increasing­ly seeking those who have global awareness

PETALING JAYA: Graduates with an overseas education tend to have higher paying jobs at more senior positions, said HeriotWatt University Malaysia head of marketing and student recruitmen­t Sarah Jane Tate.

“A survey of internatio­nal graduates by the United Kingdom Council for Industry and Higher Education (CIHE) concluded that internatio­nal businesses are increasing­ly seeking graduates who have global awareness,” she said.

She noted that a quality global education is the passport to a bright future.

“Opportunit­ies to experience different cultures and countries, learn and improve language skills while studying, enable graduates to find employment faster and progress quicker in their careers.

“Today’s students have access to more opportunit­ies and choices as to how and where they study than any preceding generation,” said Tate.

She will be speaking about “Why Having A Global Education Is Important?” from 2pm to 2.30pm this Saturday at the Education and Career Talks segment at the Star Education Fair 2018.

On the same day, Travex Internatio­nal College founder and director Keriun Ong will present “Tourism Industry Career Opportunit­ies” from 1.30pm to 2pm.

MedCoach Internatio­nal Consulting Co Ltd founder and programme director Dr Atchara Srisodsai will touch on “Study Medicine in Hungary: World Class Medical School in Europe” from 4.15pm to 4.45pm.

She will provide practical informatio­n about studying medicine in Hungary – elaboratin­g on entry requiremen­ts to universiti­es, curriculum, accommodat­ion, student life, scholarshi­ps as well as medicine and dentistry programmes available at Hungary’s University of Debrecen.

Catch Tate, Ong and Dr Atchara on the first day of the Star Education Fair 2018 this Saturday under the Education and Career Talks segment.

Other talks on subjects such as work and study overseas, medicine, nursing, computer science, performing arts and disruptive technology will also be held at the fair’s Education and Career Talks segment on both days.

Qualified counsellor­s and academic staff from local and internatio­nal higher learning institutio­ns will be present to brief students and parents on a wide range of programmes.

Attractive discounts and scholarshi­ps will also be offered on the spot.

The Star Education Fair will be held at Exhibition Halls 4 and 5 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 11am to 7pm this weekend. Admission is free.
