PETALING JAYA: Students who are keen on a British education should check out the EduCity Iskandar Puteri Pavilion, which includes University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM), Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed), Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology (NMIT) and University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM).

Visitors to the pavilion at the Star Education Fair this weekend will have access to career counsellors, personalised discussions on education options, feedback on the preparation of personal statements and medical interviews for NUMed.

“EduCity’s institutions offer many options for internship placements and career readiness. Several programmes, such as the Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance degree, involve a full year of internship placements in many elite industry organisations, including the Big Five accounting firms.

“We are collectively exhibiting as we hope to bring greater awareness to the city of Iskandar Puteri, Johor, and the offerings of EduCity as an international education hub,” said EduCity chief operating officer Sugu Maran Kailasan.

He said these institutions would be offering scholarships, bursaries and discounts.

Sugu Maran said visitors would also gain an understanding of the multi-varsity concept that allows institutes to exclusively offer the best in their respective fields of study, as well as the shared facilities available for students on campus.

“NMIT, which is supported by two of the most prestigious Dutch maritime institutes – the Maritiem Instituut Willem Barentsz and Maritiem Instituut De Ruyter in the Netherlands – ensure that students graduate with a Master’s degree in four and a half years.

“UoSM, which has a global reputation for academic excellence, offers students a chance to start their first two years of studies at the Malaysia campus and complete their final two years in Britain,” he said.

Free workshops such as a one-of-a-kind HTC vibe Virtual Reality (VR) workshop as well as a Hologram Fan workshop will be conducted by UoSM, which is providing a surprise gift for those who follow their Instagram and Facebook page.

Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) Faculty of Computing and Information Technology dean Lim Mei Shyan will be speaking on “Why You Should Consider ICT as the Pathway to a Rewarding Career” from 1.45pm to 2.15pm this Sunday at the Education and Career Talks segment of the Star Education Fair 2018.

Lim will brief students about ICT and share the rewarding experiences and feedback from the varsity’s alumni who are currently working in the ICT industry.

This, she said, would help to boost students’ awareness about the sector.

Other talks on work and study overseas, medicine, nursing, computer science, performing arts and disruptive technology will also be held on both days at the fair.

Qualified counsellors and academic staff from local and international higher learning institutions will be present to brief students and parents on a wide range of programmes.

Attractive discounts and scholarships will also be offered on the spot.

The Star Education Fair will be held at Exhibition Halls 4 and 5 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 11am to 7pm this weekend. Admission is free.
