KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair returns with a wide range of value-for-money travel packages and attractive fares.

Back for its 46th edition, the fair will be held from Sept 7 to 9 at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

To-date, 237 tourism-related companies including MATTA members have taken up 1,356 booths, compared to 1,353 booths at the last fair in March.

MATTA honorary secretary-general Nigel Wong said the increased participation from exhibitors indicated the fair is not just popular among consumers but also with local and foreign tourism organisations.

He shared that visitors could expect more Free Independent Traveller (FIT) packages and experimental-type tours catered to those, including millennials, who wanted more adventurous and experiential travel.

Wong said they were expecting at least 100,000 visitors and sales transaction of RM200mil based on the turnout from previous fairs.

MATTA chief executive officer Phua Tai Neng said 17 National Tourism Organisations will be participating in the fair.

The new destinations which will be promoted include Guam, Ecuador and Russia, he added.

Spanning across 29,000sq m of exhibition space, the three-day event will be occupying seven halls in total.

Halls 1, 2, 3 and the linkway will feature international destinations while Halls 4 and 5 will be for domestic destinations.

“Hall 1M will highlight Umrah packages with 86 booths, the biggest number we have achieved for the Umrah Hall,” said Phua during a press conference at MATTA’s headquarters here.

Additionally, visitors can look forward to the MATTA Fair Buyers’ Contest, with more than RM100,000 worth of prizes up for grabs including air tickets to local and international destinations along with hotel and attraction vouchers.

Visitors are entitled to an entry with every minimum purchase of RM300 on an international travel package or RM100 on a domestic travel package.

The fair will be promoting Taiwan as Asia’s Favourite Destination. Other official partners include Malaysia Airlines, Desaru Coast and Legoland Malaysia Resort, Royal Caribbean International, Merchantrade Asia, Top Media Resources and Sunway Putra Mall.

Visitors are encouraged to use public transportation such as the LRT and e-hailing services to avoid traffic congestion and parking challenges.

MATTA Fair September 2018 is open from 10am to 9pm and admission is RM4 per person and free for children aged below 12.

RM1 from every entrance ticket sold from this MATTA Fair will be donated to Tabung Harapan Malaysia.
