Congestion task force gathering data at Johor Causeway

GELANG PATAH: The task force looking into the congestion at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex is now collecting information at the Johor Causeway, its chairman said.

Stulang assemblyman Andrew Chen Kan Eng said a report would be submitted to the state government, with copies sent to the Home Ministry, Works Ministry and Transport Ministry.

He said there was an urgent need to have a single agency like Singapore, with only an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority manning the entry points there.

“Here at the BSI, we have 10 departments overseeing the operations at the Johor Causeway.

“If we need to implement something at the BSI and Johor Causeway, we have to deal with the 10 departments and the process is tedious and lengthy,” he said.

Chen and Perling assemblyman Cheo Yee How were appointed by the state government last month to head separate task forces for the BSI and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex near the Second Link in Tanjung Kupang, Gelang Patah, respectively.

Chen was speaking to reporters at the opening of Lim Kit Siang’s Iskandar Puteri parliamentary service centre at Taman Gelang Patah Prima here yesterday.

Lim claimed Umno and Barisan Nasional had spread lies about him on social media to smear his image.

“The latest was a Whatsapp message two days ago saying I was a communist and came to Malaya in 1957 when I was 16,” he said.

“I was also labelled as a supporter of Chin Peng (Malayan Communist Party secretary-general).”
