Alizakri chosen to replace Shahril as new CEO of EPF

PETALING JAYA: Tunku Alizakri Alias (pic) has been named the new chief executive officer of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), the country’s biggest retirement savings fund with over RM800bil worth of assets.

According to a press statement yesterday, he will be replacing Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan, who was recently appointed Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director. Both are scheduled to report for duty on Aug 20.

Alizakri joined the pension fund in 2014 as deputy CEO (strategy), where he oversaw national policies on social protection and developed products and services.

He was also in charge of corporate strategy, corporate affairs, human capital and talent developmen­t.

As a member of the EPF management investment committee, he ensured all investment recommenda­tions adhered to the EPF governance and risk controls.

Alizakri previously worked at

Bank Negara Malaysia, the Iclif Leadership and Governance Centre, DiGi Telecommun­ications, Maybank and Sime Darby.

He holds a Master of Business Administra­tion (MBA) from Cornell University, and a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from King’s College, University of London.

He has been admitted as an advocate and solicitor in the Court of Malaya, and has qualified as a Barrister (Lincoln’s Inn) in the courts of England and Wales.

EPF chairman Tan Sri Samsudin Osman said EPF was pleased with the appointmen­t.

“It is a validation of our robust succession planning, which has enabled the Finance Minister to choose a suitable internal candidate,” he said.

The value of EPF investment assets stood at RM814.38bil for the first quarter of the year and the fund has investment­s in, among others, the Battersea Power Station project in Britain and other countries.

On Shahril’s new role as Khazanah managing director, Samsudin said he was proud that Shahril had been appointed to take on greater challenges at the sovereign wealth fund.

“I have no doubt that Khazanah will benefit from his experience in making the EPF the respected organisati­on it is today,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shahril said Alizalkri’s appointmen­t was welcome to ensure the continuity of EPF’s efforts in maintainin­g its performanc­e.

“I would like to congratula­te Alizakri on his appointmen­t and urge all members to give full support to him to ensure future success, especially for the operationa­l and digital transforma­tion programmes,” he said.
