Dainty nibbles a crowd puller
Visitors also lining up to see exciting piping demonstrations
KUALA LUMPUR: Dainty nibbles were the attraction at the City University booth at the Star Education Fair 2018 as crowds lined up to watch the demonstration and sample the tasty treats.
City University Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism dean Yeoh Tay Boon said chocolate cakes and a variety of quiches were prepared by students doing the university’s Bachelor of Hospitality Management and Vatel Hotels & Tourism Business School’s Bachelor of International Hotel Management, double degree programme.
Yeoh, who is also the Vatel Kuala Lumpur school director, said City University was the only one conducting the Vatel programme in Malaysia.
In 1981, the first Vatel School opened in Paris. It now has 41 schools, 7,000 students, and 33,000 alumni around the world.
“The threeyear programme includes two internships. Students must do a foreign, and local stint, with the industry. Due to the wide Vatel global network and its reputation, our students are able to get internship placements easily.
“Our second year students also have the option of joining the Marco Polo Programme which allows them to hone their skills at any Vatel School in the world,” said Yeoh.
Stressing the importance of exposure, he said experiencing different cultures opened up the mind, which is crucial for those interested in hospitality and hotel management.
Berjaya University College sales and marketing lead strategist Wendy Woon said visitors who came to the booth were “quality students”.
“Students who visited our booth were not just here for fun. They were looking for a direction and were inquiring about the courses,” she said at the Star Education Fair 2018.
Berjaya University operations and events director Pilar Palma said the turnout for its interestbased career test was encouraging. “Some were parents themselves,” she said. The Star Education Fair is being held at Exhibition Halls 4 and 5 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 11am to 7pm today. Admission is free.
