Applying new approaches to teaching
A GROUP of 46 teachers and administrators from the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) recently took part in a two-day Design Thinking Workshop entitled “Suara Pendidik” at the TMOne Experience Centre.
The workshop was a collaboration by Multimedia University (MMU) Business School and TMOne, a division of the Telekom Malaysia Group.
The workshop offered a cutting edge Design Thinking approach based on their collaboration with Stanford d.school, in the United States.
MMU Business School director Prof Dr Murali Raman said the workshop was conducted in a fun learning environment to help teachers address the issue of simplifying school administrative duties as well as having creative methodologies on effective teaching.
“The participants were introduced to the concept of design thinking,” he added.
Design Thinking presents a systematic way of injecting creativity and innovative thinking in any company. It offers specific tools and techniques in a simplified manner. It is defined as a user-centric collaborative approach in problem solving.
One of the participants, Nadarajan Karupanan said the design thinking content can be related to many events and situations especially in teaching.
“I picked up ideas and new perspectives about the way we do things at school,” he said.
NUTP secretary-general Harry Tan said: “We were able to gather all the necessary information needed on what those below the age of 35 want to see in the classroom of the future.”
He thanked all those involved in making the programme a success.
