Take a shot at making movies, students urged
KUALA LUMPUR: Visual effects artist, screenwriter, location scout and editor are just some of the career options students can choose from upon graduating from the New York Film Academy Australia.
Its senior recruitment specialist Laura Morrison said with about 20 students a class, lessons were hands-on and practical from day one.
“Students learn how to use cameras that are used in movies, they have the opportunity to collaborate with small groups and have one-on-ones with their lecturers,” she said at the Star Education Fair.
Meanwhile, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) Faculty of Computing and Information Technology dean Lim Mei Shyan said data from Pikom showed that the overall monthly salary of ICT professionals in Malaysia in 2017 stood at RM8,908 – the third largest behind Singapore and Hong Kong – during the session “Why You Should Consider ICT as the Pathway to a Rewarding Career”.
She said that Malaysia was facing a short- age of ICT professionals though information and communications technology was very much needed in every industry today.
“No company can survive without technology. The demand of ICT services is ever increasing,” she said.
Those who were interested in the food and beverage business received valuable pointers from “Beyond Graduation: Putting Theory Into Practice – Sharing a Special Moment with Hospitality Entrepreneurs”.
Berjaya University’s alumni Gillian Beh, Jason Walter Tan See Wei and Jerrine Teo shared how they applied the knowledge gained during tertiary studies into work life.
Beh, the founder and owner of The Baking Trip – a bakery specialising in pastries and desserts – shared how she started a baking business with just RM3,000 capital.
The former event management graduate said it was important to learn about the theories in hospitality during studies as they were applicable in many situations in the workplace.
